Around this time every year I descend on the mini pumpkin case at my local Trader Joe’s, apple orchard or farmers market like a kid for candy. I have no self control when it comes to scooping up these oddly shaped squash or snow white miniature pumpkins and sprinkling them around my apartment. And then… leaving them there months earlier, which is seasonal. Even though they last a long time, I’m always a little afraid to touch them and find they’re gone like the big pumpkin I put on my deck last fall (rotten and completely destroyed by squirrels).

But before I could get my hands on some little pumpkins this fall, I saw an alternative at my local Dollar Tree: little pumpkins of all kinds that never go bad at all because they aren’t real! The Dollar Tree is an incredible place to grab all kinds of holiday decor for literally dollars, and their Halloween and fall baubles are no exception.
A fake pumpkin 4 inches or approx. hand-sized ones cost $1.25, or you can find smaller ones in bundles for the same price. I chose a package of three sweets wrapped in orange-brown burlap and topped with a gold stem for just over a dollar. They come with clips stuck to the bottom, which I’ll be honest I didn’t realize when I bought them, but I’ve now been happily clipping them around my flat on the pull cords of my blinds and ceiling fan – no dangling surface is safe from my fall fiction! While I’m sure I’ll be picking up some delightfully bumpy pumpkins in the coming weeks, I’m loving my new Dollar Store additions that I’ll be keeping for years to come.
