Furnishing a small space is all about making every square foot count—and if you’re trying your best to shop sustainably, finding appropriately sized pieces (at the right prices) can be even more challenging. While seeking out secondhand furniture is certainly one option, it can be time-consuming to dig through thrift stores or Facebook Marketplace listings. And going the new, handmade, or artisanal route can prove expensive. If you’re trying to stick to natural materials but are working with a budget, then our exclusive deal with Sabai is probably for you: Use the promo code DOMINO100 for $100 off any order from now through November 9.
Though the company’s first splash was made with velvet look-alike sofas (the fabric is actually woven recycled water bottles), it’s their most recent launch and first foray beyond cushions that we’re personally eyeing during the limited time offer.
City Table, Sabai ($495 was $595)
TL;DR: This eco-friendly coffee table is not only a steal—it’s seriously good for both your studio apartment and the planet.
The City Table is crazily compact (just 16 inches tall, 22 inches wide, and 42 inches long) and made to order with nontoxic, water-based finishes and recycled steel. Its stylish curved legs are certainly attention grabbing (especially if you go with the trendy sage or darker slate over the more neutral bone), but how and where it’s made is the main reason why our style director, Naomi deMañana, wants it for herself. “The fact that the company sources from fallen trees in Baltimore is fascinating and inspiring,” she explains. “I always look into brands that are creating a new, sustainable practice, as I believe it’s the future of good design.”
To rescue on-the-way-to-the-landfill ash, Sabai works with Cambium Carbon to salvage it (36 million trees fall in U.S. cities every year only to end up as waste), before passing the wood on to mills in South Carolina to be cut down to size. Just a few design touches needed—and it’s off to you for many movie nights.
